epic-fail-santa-fail1It’s Christmas! I checked and the 1st of December is officially the start of advent, so don’t give me any of that “it gets earlier every year” humbug. It doesn’t. It starts this time every year. If the advent calendar is out, it’s Christmas. Also, no ‘Crimbo’ or ‘Xmas’ please, let’s keep this civilised.

Now, I know some people don’t like the festivities, but a holiday based around food, drink, presents, friends and family, with some great television on top, is my kind of holiday. It’s an added bonus that Christmas is also a time when you can convince kids that the world actually contains magic; mind-blowing, chimney-busting magic. Adults everywhere join in a huge international conspiracy to get kids to behave and believe in a jolly old fellow who wants to give them gifts on the condition that they have been good all year. Of course they haven’t, but it’s a sad day when a kid works out the flaws in the Claus. Their world gets a little plainer and more ordinary once logic takes over.

Say-No-Christmas_JesusWait a minute! I’m forgetting that it’s Jesus’s birthday too. Except I didn’t forget, I just don’t care. If he’d performed a few more miracles like St Nick and rustled up that Death Star Playset I prayed for as a kid maybe things would be a bit different. He didn’t, so I don’t celebrate his birthday. Works both way Jesus, old buddy.

Without further ado, here’s The Roomyverse Christmas Album. I’ve tried to use some of the artistes we’ve talked about over the last eight months, along with others that fit the Roomyverse mold, and some downright classics. It’s downloadable, and this time the songs are separate tracks within a folder not one long mix. Hopefully it’s a bit easier to drag into your i-tunes, or whatever program you prefer, then pick and choose what you want to listen to. Think of it as a gift from me to you, loyal reader, with nothing expected in return (though a comment below would be cool.)

Seasons’s greetings from The Roomyverse.

Thanks for listening and see you in 2010!

Good post, realistic yet positive. A tough balance.

I shall make my family listen to this mix all Christmas.

  2. Head Chef says:

Get drunk and force them to listen to it and if anybody tries to leave the room threaten to kill yourself. What could be more Christmassy than that?

  3. Head Chef says:

A mallet is always impressive, though hard to see the job all the way through without passing out.

  4. roomybonce says:

I’m a clawhammer man myself. You can usually achieve immediate deceasement even with a glancing blow.

  5. Head Chef says:

“I said bedtime. Don’t make me get the claw hammer out again!”

  6. Johanna says:

I was going to be appreciative about the inclusion of Aimee Mann, who should really be in any decent list, but apparently I stumbled into a meeting of the Prince Dipendra Admiration Society.

    • roomybonce says:

Now come on, Prince Dipendra used automatic weapons! We’re advocating simple hand tools more readily accessible to a UK audience. Get your facts right Johanna. Choh!

  7. Johanna says:

Also, since it was brought up, although 1st Dec is in fact the first day for Advent Calendars, the first Sunday of Advent is usually in November and was the 29th of Nov this year (in order to accommodate 4 Sundays before Christmas). So I think God has only himself to blame for it getting earlier.

  8. krista says:

I am listening to this album and reading the posts in the office – feeling a strange combination of festive and homicidal…

  9. krista says:

hey, Head Chef, it would be cool if you made this into a Spotify playlist (and stuck it in my Spotify player for me).

    • Head Chef says:

Some of those delights are too precious to be available on Spotify. You have to come here for the goods baby. You don’t like it, then find another Chef to stir your porridge.
